GOV. RITTER SIGNS RENEWABLE ENERGY FINANCE ACT

Gov. Bill Ritter today increased finance options for residential and commercial New Energy Economy projects throughout Colorado by signing the Renewable Energy Finance Act, sponsored by Sen. Morgan Carroll and Rep. Claire Levy.

 

The sponsors joined Gov. Ritter and Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei for the Earth Day signing ceremony in Denver's Civic Center Park.

 

"The New Energy Economy is leading Colorado forward by developing sustainable energy industries that provide clean power and good jobs," Gov. Ritter said. "With broad support, this legislation will expand the ways in which Coloradans can finance solar and other efficiency projects, regardless of income levels."

 

The Act brings homeowners new options for financing solar electric systems, more choices on how they are compensated for the energy those systems produce, and encourages utilities to make solar rebate programs more accessible to customers of all income levels.  

 

"We can truly start protecting our environment by offering affordable renewable energy to everyone," Sen. Carroll said. "I'm proud to see Gov. Ritter sign SB 51 into law today, a key step to helping Coloradans save money and energy."

 

"This bill will allow more of us to participate in the New Energy Economy," Rep. Levy said. "Most importantly, residents of affordable housing developments and nonprofit entities will now be able to afford solar electric and energy efficiency improvements. SB 51 will generate millions of dollars in new investment in renewable energy. It is a win-win for Colorado."
