GOV. RITTER'S SCHEDULE: BILL-SIGNING & INTRODUCTION TODAY; S. COLO. TOMORROW

Noon               Gov. Ritter will sign House Bill 09-1088 (Balmer/Newell) into law during the Colorado Nonprofit Association's annual awards luncheon. HB 1088 allows certain nonprofits to use the state procurement system, providing savings and benefits to nonprofits and the state. Location: Hyatt Regency Convention Center Hotel, 650 15th St., Centennial Ballroom, 2nd floor, Denver.

 

2:30 p.m.        Gov. Ritter, lawmakers and education advocates will announce the introduction of Colorado ASCENT (Accelerating Students through Concurrent ENrollmenT). The legislation will allow high school students statewide to simultaneously earn their diploma and a college associate's degree. The bill is co-sponsored by Reps. Merrifield and Massey and Sen. Williams. Gov. Ritter first mentioned the bill during his annual State of the State Address in January. Location: Community College of Aurora, Lowry Campus, TV/Film Training Studio, 9075 E. 6:30 p.m.        Gov. Ritter will attend and deliver remarks at the Pueblo County Democrats annual St. Patrick's Day Dinner. Location: Pueblo Union Depot, 132 West B St.

9 a.m.              Gov. Ritter will sign House Bill 09-1083 (McFadyen/Tapia), which will allow the Department of Personnel and Administration to save $750,000 by purchasing a 35,000-square-foot building the department currently leases. Location: 2 Jetway Court, Pueblo Airport.

 

10 a.m.            Gov. Ritter will visit with attendees at a Vestas career and job fair. Vestas is building the world's largest wind tower manufacturing plant in Pueblo. The facility is scheduled to open later this year and will employ about 500 people. Location: Pueblo Convention Center, 320 Central Main St.

 

Noon               Gov. Ritter will host a town hall meeting and visit with Westcliffe residents. Location: Cliff Lanes, 25 Main St., Westcliffe.

 

2:30 p.m.        Gov. Ritter will take part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Walsenburg Waste Transfer Station. Location: 107 Industrial Drive, Walsenburg.

 

6:30 p.m.        Gov. Ritter will attend and deliver remarks at the Latin American Education Foundation's annual dinner. Location: Sheraton Hotel (formerly the Adam's Mark Hotel), downtown Denver.
