Lt. Gov. O'Brien Says Aerospace a "Bright Spot" in Colorado's Economy In March Podcast

Lt. Gov. Barbara O'Brien today noted in her March podcast that the aerospace industry has helped Colorado's economy in difficult times. Colorado has the second largest aerospace industry in the nation, with 26,000 private sector jobs and 171,000 aerospace related jobs.

"Colorado has a rich mixture of research institutions, large and small businesses, and military and government agencies that provide critical mass to the aerospace industry," said Lt. Gov. O'Brien. "These days, the economic news seems to be all dreary, but aerospace is a bright spot in Colorado's economy," she added.

Lt. Gov. O'Brien notes that Office of Economic Development grants have been awarded to two aerospace incubators to encourage aerospace company start-ups.  They include: 8th Continent at the Colorado School of Mines and the nonprofit eSpace Center for Entrepreneurship in Louisville. eSpace also received funding from Metro Denver's WIRED Initiative to implement aerospace workforce development and training programs.

Lt. Gov. O'Brien posts monthly podcasts on her website dealing with issues her office is working on around the state. This month's aerospace podcast can be found at: http://www.colorado.gov/ltgovernor/images/audio/monthly_mar09.mp3
