GOV. RITTER TO ANNOUNCE CREATION OF HOMELAND SECURITY OFFICE AT 9 A.M. TODAY

Monday, Feb. 4, 2008

9 to 9:30 a.m.             Gov. Bill Ritter will announce the creation of the Governor's Office of Homeland Security during a news conference in the West Foyer of the State Capitol this morning. Joining him will be retired National Guard General Mason Whitney and Congressman Ed Perlmutter, who serves on the House Committee on Homeland Security.

Homeland security functions are currently fragmented across multiple state agencies. The Governor's Office of Homeland Security will eliminate that fragmentation and provide better focus, coordination and oversight. Gen. Whitney will serve as the Cabinet-level director of the Office.
