GOV. RITTER'S SCHEDULE FOR FRIDAY & SATURDAY

8 a.m.                          Gov. Ritter will help kick off the daylong Jefferson Economic Council Federal Procurement Conference. Hundreds of business owners from around the region are expected to attend the conference, which will provide business owners with information about how to compete for government contracts, including those funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Location: Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, 6901 Wadsworth Blvd.

 

9 a.m.                          First Lady Jeannie Ritter and the Governor's Commission on Community Service will present the 2009 Governor's Service Awards. Each year, the awards are presented in recognition of individuals, community leaders and AmeriCorps members for their outstanding contributions to volunteerism. Location: West Steps, State Capitol.

 

9:30 a.m.                     Gov. Ritter will be joined by state Rep. Andy Kerr, Sen. Betty Boyd and other lawmakers as he signs two major New Energy Economy bills into law. House Bill 1312 will create a loan program to help schools pay for renewable energy projects and electric or hybrid buses so they can save money on utility bills and invest those savings back where they belong – in the classroom. House Bill 1126 allows for a state sales tax exemption for solar thermal components, which will incentivize hundreds of manufacturing and installation jobs over the next five years. Location: Foothills Elementary School, 13165 W. Ohio Ave., Lakewood.

                       

                        NOTE TO MEDIA: This signing ceremony will take place with hundreds of students during a school-wide assembly in the gymnasium.

 

1:45 p.m.                    Gov. Ritter will sign six election-reform and voting-related bills during two ceremonies Friday afternoon. The first bill, House Bill 1326 (T. Carroll & Court/Shaffer), Integrity of Citizen-Initiated Petitions, will be signed at 1:45 p.m. Location: West Foyer, State Capitol.

 

3 p.m.                          Gov. Ritter will sign the following election and voting bills:

HB 1015 (Murray/Hodge), Conduct of Primary Elections

                                    HB 1335 (Todd & Murray/Williams & Cadman), Requirements for Voting Equipment

                                    HB 1337 (Todd & Murray/Williams, M. Carroll & Cadman), Changes to Ballot Processing Deadlines

                                    HB 1160 (Miklosi/Bacon), Secure Electronic Voter Information

8:30 a.m.                     Gov. Ritter will deliver the keynote commencement address to the Mesa State College Class of 2009. Location: Stoker Stadium, 12th and North Avenue, Grand Junction.
