GOV. RITTER PROCLAIMS MAY AS "NUGGETS MAY-NIA MONTH"

Gov. Bill Ritter today proclaimed May 2009 as "Nuggets May-nia Month" throughout Colorado as the Denver Nuggets take on the L.A. Lakers in the NBA's Western Conference Finals.

At a presentation on the West Steps of the state Capitol, Gov. Ritter – accompanied by Nuggets' mascot Rocky, Nuggets Community Ambassador Mark Randall and several Nuggets dancers – issued the proclamation and ordered that the Nuggets flag be hoisted above the Capitol as a display of statewide support for the basketball team.

Gov. Ritter congratulated the Nuggets players, management, coaches and staff for an incredibly successful season and for energizing fans around the state.

"Led by Coach George Karl and players like Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups and Chris 'Birdman' Andersen, the 2008-09 Nuggets have inspired people all across Colorado," Gov. Ritter said. "By overcoming adversity, injuries and countless other challenges, this team has captured our imagination.

"On behalf of all Coloradans, it is my honor to let the players and coaches know how proud we are of their accomplishments and that we wish them good luck as they continue their run toward the NBA Finals."
