GOV. RITTER APPOINTS ADAMS COUNTY COURT JUDGE


 

Gov. Bill Ritter today announced the appointment of Leroy D. Kirby of Brighton to serve as an Adams County Court judge in the 17th Judicial District.

 

Kirby has been a District Court magistrate in the 17th Judicial District since 2007, primarily working in the city and county of Broomfield.

 

Kirby served in the Navy from 1990 to 1992 and has since served in the Navy Reserves. He has been deployed twice since 9/11, earning the Meritorious Service Medal and two Joint Service Commendation Medals. He most recently served in Baghdad as a Navy commander.

 

Previously, Kirby was as a Colorado state public defender in the Adams and Arapahoe offices. He earned his B.A. degree from Regis University in 1989 and his law degree from the University of Denver in 1995.

 

The appointment will take effect on July 1, 2009, for a provisional term of two years, and then until the second Tuesday in January following the next general election. Thereafter, if retained by the voters, the term for a County Court judge is four years. The current salary for a County Court judge is $123,067.
