Lt. Gov. O' Brien Kicks Off Activation of New Rules To Help Military Students

Lt. Gov. Barbara O'Brien Thursday will celebrate the activation of the new Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity to help students of military families. The compact will help the 26,000 students of military families in Colorado to transfer with greater ease when adjusting to new cities and schools.

"The move to a new school or base can be difficult. Most military children will enroll in six to nine school systems between kindergarten and twelfth grade. The interstate compact will help military students in Colorado have smoother transitions," said Lt. Gov. O' Brien.

On Thursday morning, 10 states officially will have passed laws agreeing to the compact. With the signing of the 10th state agreement in Delaware on Thursday, the states can begin implementing the rules.  Colorado became the fifth state to sign onto the agreement when Gov. Bill Ritter signed SB 1317 on June 5th."
