GOV. RITTER STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF EDUCATION PIONEER RACHEL B. NOEL

Gov. Bill Ritter today expressed his condolences regarding the death of Rachel B. Noel:

"On behalf of the people of Colorado, it is with great sadness that I extend my condolences to the family of Rachel B. Noel.

"Mrs. Noel served Denver and Colorado with distinction. She was fiercely committed to improving the lives of children by creating opportunities and improving education. Her tenacity and strength of will led her to become the first African-American elected to public office in Colorado, symbolizing the pioneering spirit of our great state and setting an example for all of us to follow.

"All of Colorado will mourn her loss, and we offer our prayers, thoughts and sympathies to the Noel family and all those who knew her."
