2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce - Footage

The Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce, a new all-wheel drive variant of the BMW 3 Series challenger, was revealed overnight.

Buyers of the Veloce have a choice between high output versions of the company's 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engines.

The new-to-Europe performance version of the 2.0-litre petrol engine generates 206kW of power at 5250rpm, and 400Nm of torque at 2250rpm.

For diesel fans, the new more powerful variant of the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel makes 154kW of power at 3500rpm, and 470Nm of torque at 1750rpm.

Both engines are fitted with a standard eight-speed automatic transmission, and the brand's Q4 all-wheel drive system. Alfa Romeo says that under normal driving conditions, the Q4 setup is 100 per cent rear-wheel drive, but, if required by the circumstances, the system can transfer up to 60 per cent of the torque to the front axle.

Standard features on the Giulia Veloce include redesigned bumpers, piano black door trim, new rear diffuser element, sport seats and steering wheel, xenon headlights, and aluminium interior trim pieces. The five-hole 19-inch alloy wheels seen here are an optional extra.

With these more powerful engine choices, the Veloce bridges the gap between the lower end of the Giulia range with the high performance Quadrifoglio, which boasts a 375kW/600Nm 2.9-litre turbo Ferrari V6 engine.
