GOV. RITTER STATEMENT ON AMERICAN RECOVERY & REINVESTMENT ACT

Gov. Bill Ritter today issued the following statement regarding the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act:

"The American people and the American economy deserve quick action in order to get this nation moving in the right direction again. Thanks to the strong leadership of President Obama and the swift deliberations of the new Congress, I'm hopeful we will soon start creating jobs and rebuilding the American and Colorado economies.

"While details are still being finalized, the recovery package will create jobs in Colorado for New Energy Economy, transportation and water projects. For the past two years, we've been creating a New Energy Economy all across Colorado, and for the past few months my office has provided valuable input to President Obama and our congressional delegation on how the recovery package can strengthen the economy by creating a new energy future for all of America.

"The recovery package will allow us to continue driving Colorado's New Energy Economy forward, continue creating renewable energy, efficiency and weatherization jobs, and continue making Colorado a renewable energy research leader.

"It also will support vital safety-net services in areas like Medicaid, unemployment benefits and job training for people and families suffering the most. It will provide important tax relief, and it will make key investments in education right away to ensure technological and innovation advances for tomorrow.

"This will not be business as usual. The depth of the economic crisis demands bold action. I'm confident Coloradans will rise to the challenge and seize the opportunities presented in the recovery package."
