GOV. RITTER PRAISES STATE SENATE VOTE ON FASTER BILL

Gov. Bill Ritter today applauded the state Senate's second-reading passage of FASTER, the job creating Funding Advancement for Surface Transportation and Economic Recovery bill.

"Congratulations to Sen. Gibbs, Senate Majority Leader Shaffer, Senate President Groff and all those who supported this legislation," Gov. Ritter said. "This is one of the most important bills being considered this session. It will create thousands of new jobs all acrossColorado and strengthen our economy during one of the worst global crises in decades.

"It will let us fix and maintain structurally deficient bridges and unsafe roadways, and it will put us on a long-term path toward a modern, 21st century transportation system that is supported by a sustainable funding stream.

"I look forward to continuing to work with legislators from both parties as the FASTER bill moves to the House," said Gov. Ritter, who met today with Republican House leadership as part of ongoing discussions about the bill.
