Lt. Gov O'Brien, MAYOR HICKENLOOPER, MLK, JR. HOLIDAY COMMISSION TO ANNOUNCE MLK DAY EVENTS


DENVER- Lt. Governor Barbara O'Brien and Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper will join the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ColoradoHoliday Commission Monday, Jan. 14 at 11:30 a.m. to announce the Colorado's MLK, Jr. Day celebration and events and light the torch that will pass through Colorado and appear in the Marade Jan. 21. The press conference will take place at the State Capitol in room 326.
 
Sharon Alexander-Holt, chairperson for the MLK Colorado Commission, and Vern L. Howard, statewide special event chairperson, will also speak about Colorado's plans to commemorate the 2008 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Dr. King's assassination. The local theme of this year's events will be, "You Can Kill the Dreamer, But Never the Dream."
 
The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Colorado Holiday Commission is responsible for creating an agenda marking the education and events of Dr. King's life and keeping his dream alive. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Colorado Holiday Commissioners are Ralph Beechum, Barbara Shannon-Bannister, Roz Duman, Sharon Alexander-Holt, Vern L. Howard, Sandra Moore-Mann, Haven Moses, Terry Nelson, Desiree Marchman, Darius Smith, Menola Upshaw and Stephen Straight.
